In failing health for one year, Fred H. Whitecotton, 83, Waveland died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville. The son of William and Elizabeth Plunkett Whitecotton, he was born near New Market on Jan 26, 1907. On April 18, 1929, he married Velma Moody who survives. Mr. Whitecotton farmed until 1945. He owned and operated Whitecotton Hardware & John Deer Implement at Waveland from 1945-1985.  He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, Waveland masonic Lodge 300 F&AM for over 49 years, Waveland Order of Eastern Star 359 over 43 years was a 32nd degree mason and honorary member of Waveland Alumni Association.  He was president of the Waveland Conservation Club, past president and lifetime honorary member of Waveland Midwestern Saddle Club served as Brown Township Trustee from 194-1955, served on the New Market Joint School Board and with the Montgomery County Board of Education from 1947-1955.  Survivors include a son, Don Whitecotton, Crawfordsville; two daughters, Joyce Surface, Brooklyn and Joan Livesay, Waveland; a sister, Mary Reynolds, Greenville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ted Whitecotton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Machledt & Servies Funeral Home in Waveland. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery near Waveland.
